Srinagar, Jul 22: Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel was killed and another injured after terrorists opened fire on security forces along the Anantnag-Kokernag Road in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, prompting a massive search operation in the area.
According to officials, the two SOG personnel were deployed on duty when they came under terrorist fire. Both sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that one of the injured policemen, Ashiq Hussain, succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead. The condition of the second injured personnel has not been officially disclosed.
Following the attack, security forces rushed additional reinforcements to the area, sealed off the entire stretch and launched a large-scale cordon and search operation to trace the attackers and prevent their escape.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the attack. Further details are awaited as the operation continues.
In a separate incident, an Army soldier died after accidentally falling from a height near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.
The deceased was identified as Rifleman Sukhpreet Singh (27), who was on official duty at the forward Mahadev Post in the Sunderbani sector when he reportedly lost his balance and fell.
His body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination, while police have initiated inquest proceedings. The body will be taken to his native place in Punjab for the last rites, officials said.
