Mangaluru: Please help Smitha Sujay Bendore to walk again...

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Mar 13: This is a humble request to the readers of daijiworld.com on behalf of Sujay Bendore, a former Daijiworld representive, photojournalist in Dubai, who is currently strugglling due to sudden ill health of his beloved wife Smitha. The couple has one daughter who is pursuing her studies in India.

This is the story of a couple who was once synonymous for humanitarian and social work, but due to tragic circumstances, is now in urgent need of financial assistance.

Sujay and Smitha have been living in the UAE for years, involving themselves in social service irrespective of caste, creed, language and religion. They helped numerous people and practically devoted their lives to the betterment of the society. They were also active members of Billawa community organisations in the UAE.

However, the uncertainity in Sujay's job had forced the family to relocate to Mangaluru with whatever small savings they had. They opened a small laundry shop in Mangaluru which was just enough for them to sustain and educate thier daughter. They both had to work non-stop to earn their daily bread.

Things started going downhill when Smitha fell ill all of a sudden. The family's dreams began crumbling when Smitha, in early stages of diabetes, suffered a minor wound on her left toe two or three years ago. Complications led to severe infection, which in turn necessitated amputation of her toe. A few months later, the other toes in the same foot also blackened. The doctors recommended an angiography and the report showed peripheral nerve blockages on both the legs and also blockages in the arteries of the heart.

As per the doctors' instructions, Smitha underwent a bypass surgery. But the problem with the toes persisted. The left lower limb had to be amputated up to the calf. Soon there were issues with the right leg, in spite of angioplasty. The doctors did their best to save the leg. But with no success they had to arrive at the harsh decision of amputating the right limb too.

An active and lively woman that she once had been, Smitha is now bedridden, but still raring to move around like before, with the aid of artificial limbs. Her spirit is high. But there are other hindrances and constraints. Sujay has spared no efforts in tending and caring for her, exhausting all resources in the process.

During the course of the treatment, the Sujay-Smitha couple not only spent all their Gulf savings of about Rs 25 lac, but were also forced to go for some loan.

Dr Praveenchandra Nayak (podiatrist) is treating and guiding the couple in KMC Hospital, Mangaluru.

Smitha wants to walk again and win back her life. She has not lost hope. "My mom has tremendous will power, she has a stong positive mind, she does not want mere sympathy, instead she wants to show the world that she can walk again," says her daughter who is pursuing her BTech.

Dear readers, Smitha needs your help to walk again. Their humble business has gone neglected, bank loan interest has become an overbearing burden, and life has become extremely tough. Still, Sujay has tremendous hope in the readers of daijiworld.

Readers of daijiworld, who have time and again showed their generosity and large-heartedness in helping scores of families in difficult times, are once again requested to assist the couple in getting a new lease of life.

The family needs at least Rs 10 lac for treatment, post-treatment, and continuous medication.

Let's join hands to help this family smile again.

Those who wish to help the couple are requested to send in their contribution to:

Really shocking news to me.I know Mr.Sujay personally and met him here in Mangalore several times after returning from Dubai.Since I am also sailing in the same boat as that of Mr.Sujay and in the deep water because of my wife's deteriorating health condition and under treatment for the past ten years, financially I can not help Mr.Sujay but I pray for Mrs.Smitha Sujay for the speedy recovery and back to walk again condition.
Mr.Sujay I can understand your mental predicament at this stage because I am also going through the same ordeal.Even Dr.Praveenchandra Nayak has also treated my wife. But I pray for all of you.God bless you all
