New Delhi, Sep 11: Nirbhay Choudhary and Tanya Chaudhary set new national records in the men's and women's hammer throw events respectively at the Indian Athletics Final Series 2026.
Nirbhay produced a throw of 71.02 metres to surpass the previous national record of 70.23m set by Neeraj Kumar in 2016. Damneet Singh finished second with 68.12m, while Ashish Jakhar secured third place with a throw of 67.51m.

In the women's hammer throw, Tanya Chaudhary broke Anushka Yadav's previous national record of 67.02m with a remarkable throw of 68.35m. Anushka finished second with 66.34m, while Kulvinder Kaur claimed third place with 59.13m.
Several leading Indian athletes also competed at the meet as they assessed their form ahead of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Among the notable performances, Animesh Kujur won both the men's 100m and 200m events, clocking 10.21 seconds and 20.59 seconds respectively. Avinash Sable claimed the men's 3,000m steeplechase title, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the shot put with a throw of 20.64m.
Rohit Yadav emerged victorious in the men's javelin throw with an effort of 81.10m, while Dev Kumar Meena won the pole vault event by clearing 5.40m.
In the women's events, Harita Bhadra won the 100m, Aishwarya Mishra clinched the 400m title, and Lili Das finished first in the 800m. Parul Chaudhary won the women's 3,000m steeplechase, while Ancy Sojan secured victory in the long jump with a leap of 6.76m.
Annu Rani won the women's javelin throw with an effort of 57.50m.
