Bengaluru: ACP canes hotelier Rajeev Shetty for not closing eatery within deadline

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Nov 16: CCTV footage of an incident, where the owner of a hotel is being caned repeatedly by a senior police officer, has gone viral on social sites. This incident happened on Thursday, November 9, at Shetty Lunch Home, which is situated on Dinnur main road in RT Nagar.

As per the reports, Manjunath Babu, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), JC Nagar, is the officer who allegedly caned Rajeev Shetty, owner of the hotel in front of his staff and customers on the night of November 9. The hoteliers of the city are irked by the incident, in which they say, the officer asked the hotel to be closed at midnight, an hour before the stipulated deadline for closing restaurants.

It is clearly visible in the video that the officer keeps on beating the owner of the restaurant repeatedly in spite of him apologizing. Rajeev Shetty appraised the incident to Chandrashekhar Hebbar, president of Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels' Association, who promptly brought the same to the notice of T Sunil Kumar, police commissioner.

Issuing a statement on the incident, Chandrashekhar Hebbar said, "Bars and restaurants in the city have to close at 11 30 pm on weekdays, whereas restaurants can do business till 1 am on all days of the week as per the directive of the government. November 9 was a Thursday and as an ACP, the officer should have known this rule."

On the other hand, the ACP, in his defense, said, "We have given several warnings to Rajeev in the past but they were ignored. On the day of the incident also when police on duty went to his hotel at midnight, there were five customers still in the restaurant. On getting the information from my men, I personally visited the eatery. When I questioned about the deadline, he replied to me in nasty language."

Not closing the eatery within time frame is not criminal act to beat!
In reality criminals are spared from beating! While condemning canning of a businessman,
I recall Mangalore horror, how late Dy Sp Ganapati had beaten black and blue, innocent civilized, un-armed, women, children & nun were beaten in full public glare, while engaged in peaceful march for justice?
    Ultimately he paid the price!

It is because of the silence of fair-minded people, let the rogues and criminals run the show. The ACP should have been paid back in the same coin for taking law in his hands. Shut the place down, if he has the guts and the power, but don't adopt uncivilized ways to handle the issue by beating a decent man. Higher officials are climbing the roof and announcing that police should be people friendly and at the same time they are keeping unprofessional rogues in the police department. Fire him and set an example for other rogues.

What kind of city Bangalore is where business establishment have be closed down at a stipulated time. If the authorities give rising crimes as a reason, then its actually their incapacity of maintaining law and order. This is what we get when we elect baffoons into office.

Instead of our stupid govt celebrating some tyrants birthday or banning the practice of some belief, they should make sure that there are adequate law enforcement officers to take care of reducing crimes.

We, the people should demand safety and security to run businesses 24/7 and the govt must make it a top priority instead of doing vote banking politics.

Sincerity, honesty and straightforwardness works on personal level of life.
Today's world runs on liquidity (cash & not cashless). Even digital or electronic payments may not work on all the transactions. Then it is left to ones wish to remain against corruption or move with present flow or circumstances. Where there is no corruption take for example the wealthiest Arab countries.
I still remember when my mother passed away some years back and was required to carry the death certificate from Mangalore corporation, the attender told me come tomorrow, when when tomorrow approaches another reason. Finally, he only guided me and I had to oblige.

Cops have no respect for ordinary people and can get away easily by all kinds of atrocities. It is time that government invest some money in body cameras with recorders, to tape what is going on, money better spent than giving 10,000 pairs of Reebok shoes to school children to make them appear smart. Government seems to have no priorities in spending.

I just saw last night while going for walk two police officers collecting money from shop owners. They were wearing winter jackets they come everyday in splendour bike and collect money from shop owners for keeping the shop opennlate night. They were collecting hundred rupees from illegal street vendors on footpaths. I saw the same guy last month outside toit pub collecting money from owner. This hotelier clearly refused to give the protection money to the police. There is no system in place. Every where this happens. And the common people are responsible.

it's mentioned as ""Bars and restaurants in the city have to close at 11 30 pm on weekdays, whereas restaurants can do business till 1 am on all days of the week as per the directive of the government. ". If that's true and if this an restaurant... according to the above video clip... it says 11. 56 PM. That shows the officer is at wrong side. May be repeated warnings and all true. But that doesn't permit office to take law in to his hand and beat the owner. It will be a pay back time for the officer now. He should have taken legal action here than beating the owner. Any ways... let's lave it to law and order for their proceedings and action.
