Bengaluru: CBI court orders further probe into Sowjanya murder

Bengaluru, Feb 8 (DHNS): A CBI special court on Tuesday ordered further investigation into the sensational murder of Sowjanya, a second year PU student of SDM College in Ujire near Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district.

The trial in the murder case is in progress and as many as 12 witnesses have deposed before the court till now.

The 50th Additional Sessions Court (CBI special court) in November 2016 had summoned three persons, Mallik Jain, Uday Jain and Dheeraj Jain to appear before it to face trial in the case. The summons were issued based on the petition filed by Sowjanya’s father Chandrappa Gouda, who had urged the court to consider the trio as accused, saying they were involved in the murder. The trio had moved the high court and obtained a stay on the summons.

The trial court had earlier observed that from the prosecution evidence, more than one person was involved in the crime and the prime accused Santhosh Rao alone could not have raped and murdered Sowjanya.

Sowjanya (17) was found murdered on October 10, 2012 near Dharmasthala. The state government had recommended a CBI investigation into the case.

    Oh Krishnanna,

    Which India and which CBI are you referring to? If my memory serves me right:

    - Rajiv Gandhi assassination was investigated by CBI and many were convicted, including three death penalty;
    - Mumbai blast case was investigated by the CBI with exactly 100 convictions;
    - Haryana teachers recruitment scam was investigated by the CBI with Chautala and his son landing in prison for several years
    - Stamp paper scam was investigated by the CBI with Telgi being convicted in several of the cases.

    I have just given you four examples. Please do not make some blanket statement which makes no sense.

    Justice delayed is justice denied in Indian constitution which itself is a mockery when comes to trial, time taken, and speedy justice. Simple answer is to subject people to lie detector testing. If the person is lying, he is immediately caught. Next, whoever is involved, police have to go deep and arrest the culprits, how influential they are. Unless strict laws against rape, murder, etc, are in place, nobody is bothered about Indian constitution or police. Need judicial reforms as well as political reforms. Unless the justice is delivered speedily, instances like this will happen and the case will die its natural death involving rich people and influential persons in society.

    Mr. Anil, no kickbacks. Only kicks by powerful people. Do you know how many key witnesses have been washed out ? Money and power and religion is playing major role here protecting the culprits. God will give justice to Little Angel Sowjanya. Whoever is done this inhuman sin will be punished for sure. RIP dear Sowjanya.

    When you have already on accused then what is the difficulty to get others names from him. In India even Elephant goes to police station and comes out saying I am monkey. Why such delay.
