Kundapur: Former MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty decides to contest alone

With Inputs from Silvester D'Souza

Kundapur, Mar 22:
Halady Srinivas Shetty, who had cemented BJP’s position in this constituency by working hard, becoming popular, and winning successive elections from here, and recently resigned from his post and primary membership of the party for being neglicted during the cabinet formation by chief minister Jagadish Shettar, has decided to contest in the coming assembly election as an independent candidate.

Reliable sources said that Shetty, who was frustrated at the way he was handled by the party leaders, is confident of winning the seat.

Halady’s supporters said that the former MLA made the above announcement, when a group of his supporters met him on Thursday March 21, and sought details of his future plans. Many believe that Shetty, on account of his charisma and accessibility, has a huge fan following in the region, and hence has the capacity to rock the BJP boat, which was sailing smoothly since long.

Halady who was let down after being promised a ministerial berth resigned as member of legislative assembly and then from the BJP. After that he did not reveal his support to any party until the urban local body elections were over and now he has decided to contest independently, confirmed sources.

A number of Shetty’s supporters continue to be in BJP. As many as 7 supporters of Halady have won in the municipal election under BJP who have assured full support to him. When he was advised to seek outside support of BJP for his candidature, Shetty said he does not want to have any ties with the party. “You are free to support the person of your choice. I am not pressurizing you people to lend support to me. I am confident that the voters of the constituency will ensure my victory,” he reportedly told them.

Other that BJP party members, there is a indication that even members from JD(S) and other party might support Srinivas Shetty.

From Kundapur, in Congress party, the name of Malyadi Shivaram Shettar is among the probable candidates for the assembly election while from BJP, the race is between Mani Gopal and B Kishore.

Since his college days, he is a leader,to help & do good to everybody. He can discuss, cant argue,a man with very high self prestige.Sadly those ethical days are gone.Today an idiot joins a politics & makes crores of money, he will become a model or hero.People say he can win without a party support.this time he has to prove it. Even if wins he has to join one of the chor company, if not as good as sitting in Kundapura. Since he is very sensitive, these chor company, will upset him he will resign again..

Dear Sir, I have heard nice things about you. Wish you good luck. I wish to tell you one thing. Some of the evils have walked away by this time. No doubt some are still in your earlier party. But, you can continue with your party also and you would be in the good books. Or else do not join any other party, you contest as an Independent. You would get elected as everyone knows about you and your good work, behaviour and nature would definitely be rewarded. But, as an Independent candidate, the scope would be limited. However, I wish you good luck and support you for the very reason that your kind hearted, well cultured, and not being corrupt. Wish you good luck once again.

This time people will vote right candidates like no communal minded dividing people between religion, targeting religious places in the name caste, making hate speech etc. we call our twin district most educated people district but what we do and support most corrupted and sick minded people who divided society in the name of mandir, masjid and church this should be stop forever.. and this is the right time to elect and the right person to show our true identity. i know only few people doing these kind of activities and blaming whole communities.

    Ismail,

Winning and loosing is just a cycle that repeats every 5 years with different actors.
Who would have thought that congress had a chance 5 years back? What will happen to BJP? At the most they will sit in opposition for 5 years . Do you think congress party consists of saints ? Watch out in next 6 months when all the congress Pudaris start lofting the state and forget all their promises. Off course you will see more minority appeasement, reservation politics, lira a politics etc etc that typically amplifies congress vote bank politics. Get a life man and don't sweat for this political party that has destroyed this country in the last 60 years or so.

Congress – Please do not under the wrong impression of JPHs win. That time all the politicians in region irrespective party stood neutral. Because of JPHs personality and there is no choice also (Sunil Kumar was unknown to major parts of the region). Current probable candidate for Congress Malyadi Shivaram Shetty not has proper exposure so far (absolutely no idea regarding him).

BJP – On current scenario Kota Shrinivasa Poojari definitely achieved better consideration than the earlier days because of his good work. He holds coastal side – They will not turn to any other.

HSS – As I mentioned in my earlier post, he has bigger fan following community but some portion now started following Kota.

It is too early to predict further… Definitely its “interesting match at Kundapura”.

    ISMAIL,

Also few more reasons for keeping away from congress is:

    1. Congress is terror supporter.
    2. Ant-national.
    3. Family ruling.
    4. Sidelined national interests.
    5. Illegally ruling India using CBI.
    6. Most communal, Killed thousands of Sikhs
    7. Italy, Pakistan preferred over India

Considering his health , it is better for him to call a day. He has the responsibility of being the Presidents of various samithis and the meetings are usually cancelled as he can not attend due to health. He is the president of Akrama Sakrama committe in Byndoor, and I do not know how many meetings he has attended. More over he has to travel all the way from Halady To Byndoor for these meetings, as though no healthy person is avilable in Byndoor area.

On the ground HSS is best social servant amongst the available. He is always stood with common man in the region and undoubtedly has huge fan following community.

Big issue (negativity) with HSS is restricted to simple fundas – No media stunts, No aggression, not ambitious, these issues may cause great loss to Kundapura. HSS should start thinking in a broader perspective according to changed circumstance.

    Good Luck HSS…
