Udupi, Sep 17: Following complaints from the public regarding delays in issuing building permits and various issues related to the functioning of the panchayat administration, Lokayukta officials conducted an inspection at the Belur grama panchayat office in Kundapur taluk on Thursday.

A team led by Lokayukta DySP Halamurthy Rao and inspector Manjunath visited the grama panchayat office and examined records and administrative information related to the panchayat development officer (PDO) and other staff. The officials gathered details regarding the process of issuing building permits, disposal of applications, and the steps taken to provide services to the public.

The complaint reportedly also alleged that around 400 applications had been collected from villagers after assurances were given during the election period that house sites would be provided. In this connection, the

Lokayukta team examined the nature of the applications, supporting documents, and the procedures followed by the grama panchayat.

The Lokayukta team also visited stone quarries located within the jurisdiction of the Belur grama panchayat and conducted a spot inspection. Details regarding permissions, records, and the action taken by the panchayat in connection with the quarries were also sought.

The inspection was carried out based on complaints received from the public, with officials examining relevant records and gathering necessary information. Further action, if any, is expected to be decided after the completion of the inspection and scrutiny of the records.
