Cricket fans may get international stadium in outskirts of Mangaluru city

Daijiworld Media Network -Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Sep 4: A dream of several years of having an international cricket stadium in the city is likely to materialise soon.

Like the stadium in Bengaluru, Mangaluru too will get a well-fledged cricket stadium soon.

In Konaje, there is a plan to construct an international cricket stadium. The proposed cricket stadium will likely to come up on 20 acres of land.

Karnataka State Cricket Association has inspected the land for the construction of the stadium. If the work gets started and completed, cricket matches for under-18, Ranji, and women will be held.

Currently, there is no cricket stadium in the city with all kinds of facilities. Ranji matches are generally held in Shivamogga, Hubballi, Mysuru, and other parts of the state.

The Konaje is also nearer to Kasargod district. As there are various kinds of transportation facilities, Konaje enjoys some importance as a locality to have a stadium.

There has been a demand for a well-fledged cricket stadium for decades now. Karnataka State Cricket Association had submitted a proposal to the district administration in 1999 for constructing the stadium.  The Association was willing to complete the stadium work if the administration gives 15 acres of land. Though there was a proposal for the cricket stadium for decades, it did not materialise.

In 2002, there was a proposal to build a cricket stadium and a comprehensive sports complex in Pilikula where a 72-acre plot is available. There was also a proposal to construct a cricket stadium in Bondel, Baikampady, and Thanirubhavi.

Several players from the coastal region have contributed to the Indian cricket team. K L Rahul who is shining in international cricket was practicing cricket in his childhood days in the Nehru Maidan.

I have been hearing about this cricket stadium for the past 25 years....................In India it takes decades for completion of a project after laying the foundation stone. In this case even a foundation stone has not been laid yet.

Mangalore district administration is very lazy. It's been more than 30 years Karnataka cricket association is asking for a land and they couldn't provide one at least. If you compare it with Udupi dist administration which is very active that they are identifying each every tourism potential places in district and developing it with proper facilities. Look at the beaches and parks of Udupi district which is very well developed and maintained compared to Mangalore ones

There is no land to construct cricket stadium at Bondel. Bondel now become residential hub & very difficult to get 20 to 25acr land even if you get too very expensive for comparing to Konaje.

Yet again, a golden opportunity for the concerned minister, MP, MLA and the rest to mint money! This will be a mega project and 40% amounts to hundreds if not thousands of crores.

Plan for the worse in climate change; today a neighbouring country, we are just a border away::Water scarcity, exacerbated by climate change, could cost some regions up to 6% of their GDP, spur migration, and spark conflict. The combined effects of growing populations, rising incomes, and expanding cities will see demand for water rising exponentially, while supply becomes more erratic and uncertain. Unless action is taken soon, water will become scarce in regions where it is currently abundant - such as Central Africa and East Asia - and scarcity will greatly worsen in regions where water is already in short supply - such as the Middle East and the Sahel in Africa. These regions could see their growth rates decline by as much as 6% of GDP by 2050 due to water-related impacts on agriculture, health, and incomes. Water insecurity could multiply the risk of conflict. Food price spikes caused by droughts can inflame latent conflicts and drive migration. Where economic growth is impacted by rainfall, episodes of droughts and floods have generated waves of migration and spikes in violence within countries.

No, keeping in mind so many international airports in Kerala. Mangalore airport, handed over to Adani, is robbing more from passengers by imposing airport handling charges in addition to taxes levied that is too high as compared to Keralite airports.

Even if they eventually do build the stadium, the name they choose to call it should reflect the other users too. 1. When the next leader comes that will be the best venue for giving his fiery speeches. This will be make it or break it speech that will set their followers on fire. 2. When there is flooding, there that's where the population will be housed temporarily 3. Football and Hockey fans will also have a venue. 4. Individual or Multi Schools can have their sports day. 5. Last, but not least when all the noveau rich who wish to flaunt their wealth can choose this as a venue to invite their guests to prove to the world "Hum Kisey Seh Kum Nahin". Peace.

Good to know that KSCA is constructing Cricket Stadium in Mangaluru which will boost local talent as well as business in nearby areas including tourism and hospitality industry when International matches are played, it would give a good fillip to local 3,4 and 5 star hotels as well as taxis and restaurants in city, not to forget the airport too!
