Refused rented house, transperson pleads for mercy killing in Kodagu

Kodagu, Aug 17 (IANS): A transperson has filed a petition before the Kodagu District Commissioner in Karnataka seeking mercy killing after being denied a house on rent by owners, officials said on Wednesday.

The transperson, a resident of Madikeri city, has stated in her petition that she was being denied a rented house by owners for being a third gender.

The petitioner also said that she was eking her livelihood through begging and had put up in a lodge. She had submitted a petition long ago to the office of District Commissioner regarding the same issue, but she has not got any succour.

She had also requested the authorities to help her find a rented house in Galibeedu or Jambur regions of the district. The district authorities are yet to respond to her demands.

She had alleged that repeated attempts to draw the attention of the authorities have failed and the officers have not responded to her pleas.

The transperson stated that she was writing the last letter to the authorities and asked the district commissioner Dr Sateesha B.C. to fix up a date for her mercy killing as she is not able to take the mental suffering, torture and humiliation of violation of her rights.

If every one starts applying of mercy killing, then mean people may build killing factories. Those who wants to die, don't make noise of dying, they simply die.. No one cares if you live or die, so it's important to be mentally tough & laugh about your life. Its not easy to live a life of third gender, specially when you don't have so called honorable profession..

Social organisations should wake up and help her in every way so that she can live a dignified life. If authorities don't act now, then it will take generations for our highly conservative society to accept transgenders and treat them as human beings.

I find sad that refused rented house to her?On which ground was refused? What has to do with her gender,so long she pays her rent regularly, cause no problem in neighbour. She is not responsible for her gender. Our people should slowly learn to go with this generation and be tolerant. They find no job so only have to beg .I understand her prolem of pleading for mercy killing.Who wants to be only there and not accepted in society?
