Mangaluru: Founder's day of Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust observed

Mangaluru, June 12:  "The duty of police officers and doctors are always connected. If wealth is lost, nothing is lost and if health is lost, everything is lost," said deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) D P Dinesh Kumar.

He was speaking during the blood donation camp and health screening camp for women organised on behalf of the Founder's Day celebration at M V Shetty College Vidyanagar, Kavoor. 

"The institution is striving to maintain social health which is really appreciable. People are suffering without getting blood at the right time while they are in hospitals. Hence, blood donation is the greatest donation," he added.

He also called upon people to come forward to donate blood.

He lauded M R Shetty's vision in establishing various institutions with hard work and dedication.

Speaking on the occasion, trustee of Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust Dr Ranjith Shetty said, "Dr M R Shetty is a great visionary and founded this institution with a lot of foresight. With great perseverance, he has built these institutions. To achieve this success, he had struggled a lot. The blood bank has raised the level of the hospital. M V Shetty blood bank is one of the best blood banks in the state and we have even won awards." 

In her presidential address, Dr Hima Urmila Shetty chairperson of Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust said, " This founder's day is very special because the blood bank was close to M R Shetty's heart. He had no bias to caste or religion and even the blood has no such biases. His vision was only to help the needy."

Dr Sharath Rao J, MD, Department of Immuno Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Regional Blood Transfusion Center, Wenlock Hospital also spoke during the occasion. 

Dr Mariam Anjum Ifthikar, consultant gynaecologist and oncologist, Yenepoya Hospital and Medical College, Dr Ibrahim Nagnoor of Yenepoya Hospital, U T Ifthikar Ali and others were present.

Dr M V Shetty Group of Colleges celebrated the Founder’s Day of the College in the memory of Late Dr M Ramgopal Shetty who founded the college. On his birthday, June 12 the college celebrates Founder’s Day every year.

Dr M Ramgopal Shetty first instituted the Nursing college in the year 1989 followed by Physiotherapy and other health institutions in the memory of his late father Dr M V Shetty, a pioneer, who started the first college in health sciences in the state of Karnataka. This year is the 77th Birth Anniversary of the Founder Dr. M Ramgopal Shetty.

The blood donation camp was organised in collaboration with Govt. Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore. The Health Screening for Women was organised in collaboration with Yenepoya Medical College and Women’s Wellness Mobile Unit.  Over 100 donors donated their blood and over 50 women were screened for various gynaecological and health conditions in the mobile unit.
