Mangaluru, Mar 30: The Campus Front of India (CFI) staged a vehement protest and gheraoed the Mangalore University in Konaje on Wednesday, March 30, opposing invitation to RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for the varsity student council inauguration.

Several CFI members including a student leader have been detained in this connection. The protestors contended that inviting a hate speaker to an official programme of the university was bound to vitiate the educational environment in the campus.

It is unfortunate that Kalladka Prabhakar who has been provoking communal hatred in the coastal belt and has several cases registered against him in various police stations for making inciting speeches, has been invited to the university", they said. The CFI members had also submitted an appeal on Monday to the Mangalore University authorities to withdraw the invitation citing disturbance of peace in the campus.

Police security has been beefed up in the Mangalagangothri campus.

My humble opinion is that the University should have refrained from inviting a person as controversial as Kalladka Bhat. Forget the University, this person should not be invited to any function too. A person who divides the society on the basis of religion should be shunned by everyone. It would be a travesty of justice to classify him as a human being. I am told he is a medical doctor. This man has brought disrepute to this noble profession.

So, CFI actually exists. Now the million dollar question - who are the beneficiaries of your actions and why are you doing it? You started intellectually hollow hijab controversy, and now ruckus over Dr. Bhat. And finally, you should come in the open on our philosophy for your supporters and where do you envisage them says 5 years down the road bereft of any University degree?

This not a good development for future students by setting such bad example. Inviting such a personality will encourage students to follow his path of communal hatred and division in the society. What are students learning from Mangalore university’s initiative once know as the bastion of education, modern civilization and discipline.

Now everyone needs controversies before the elections, otherwise what is the problem with the university inviting such a provocative person to the university. Is he up to give a motivational speech to students?
