Udupi: Boycott - Muslim traders meet Pejawar Swamiji, seek accommodation at fairs

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP/JD)

Udupi, Mar 30: Muslim traders who are facing a boycott in the annual fairs near the Hindu temples in the district, met Pejawar Math chief, Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, at Sri Rama Vittala Sabhahavana of Pejawar Math on Wednesday March 30 and requested him to allow them to participate in businesses at fairs as in the past.

They explained to the Swamiji that the traders who eke out a living by selling items by setting up shops at the annual fairs are facing a lot of problems. They pleaded with the Swamiji to allow them to conduct businesses near the temples.

A delegation of Muslim traders under the banner of Udupi Jilla Sauharda Samithi led by Abubakker Atrady met the Swamiji and urged him through a memorandum to allow Muslim and Christian merchants to pitch shops at the temple fairs and festivals.

Reacting to the development, Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji acknowledged that peace and harmonious coexistence are very much necessary for a society to have a conducive atmosphere and that no one section of the society can achieve this objective. "Hindu society has suffered pain and sorrow for very long. Because of several bitter experiences, the Hindu society is going through agony. This issue cannot be sorted out by mutual discussions between a few religious leaders. A lasting solution should be found at the grassroot level. When a section or group continuously faces injustice, its frustration and anger pours out. The frustrated Hindu society has been fed up with injustices. We have to sit on a dais and discuss causes for this situation. There is hope of the harmony getting established again if no more such unsavoury incidents happen for the Hindu society. All the cows inside the cattle shed of a widow have been stolen and the woman has been driven to the streets. Such and several more incidents have caused the pain to get crystallized among Hindus. It is not possible to establish peace and coexistence if we just mouth these words. However, there is no need for any mediation by the third person," the Swamiji explained.

He noted that as a result of the Hijab fight, economic boycott of Muslim merchants has happened and felt that those who have faced injustice have to address the root cause of the problem. Let the society punish those who have committed wrongs and let them protest against the erring members. Wrong things done by one affects the whole society. If those who commit wrongs are not supported by the community, the Hindu society does not suffer the pain, he narrated.

Priest of the Mother of Sorrows Church Udupi, Fr Charles, Udupi priest Inamullah Khan, Haji Abdulla Navunda, a social worker, Haji Abdulla Parkala Manipal, Haji K Abubakker, entrepreneur from Parkala who is honorary president of Consumers Forum, Binesh, president Electricals Electronics Udupi district, Gangadhar, Muhammed Maula entrepreneur, Abubakker Nejar, V V S Ummer, secretary of Jamia Masjid Udupi, Muhammed Arif, general secretary of street vendors and fair businessmen union, B H Shettiar of Consumers Forum etc were present.

One so called swami said that eating halal food is haram for hindus. My question is will the followers of that swami who are working in arab nations leave the meat or leave the Arab country ? That swami by himself will not eat meat but give lecture to others to not to eat.

Dear Althaf, Udupi/Kaup, Job in middle east blackmail will soon be history. If middle east does not have oil, nobody will care dropping a million dollar bomb there. Wake up and stop acting that everyone lacks education and intellect by design.

Mr. Mayya, unfortunately, you are wrong. Middle Eastern countries are thousand times better managed than today's India. India is loosing its place in the world being the most corrupt country, religious intolerance, autocracy and scores of third rate, one sided policies which are detrimental for the progress of the country. On the other hand, look at Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait - all these countries are symbol of tolerance where all religious people live harmoniously. UAE leads in this case any plenty of Hindus have made it their permanent residence. Middle East is not relying on gas but diversification in every sphere of business world (unlike India). Mr. Mayya, you are spitting in the air, don't forget, it falls square on your face.

Dear Alphy, Mumbai, Exactly. Your understanding of middle east is consistent with that of mine - they are planning to promote tourism and want to be inclusive with rest of the world to an extent that they can conduct biz with Israel in the 21st century. But, do you agree with how hijab controversy has evolved in Hindu majority nation vis-a-vis current aspirations of UAE, KSA, Qatar and the progressives?

IS VHP, BD, BJD, HYS, going to listen to Swamiji even if he says something. We should remember what happened when the previous Swamiji did Iftar during Ramadan at Krishna Math and the reaction after that. Next year onwards Iftar was dropped and after that none. Now the water has flown above the nose. Only time left for drowning

It’s an extremely tragic story of the Hindu society in spite of being a majority. They are suffering terribly because of minorities and are at the brink of extinction. Somehow we have to fight and thrash the minorities and save the Indian Hindus from extinction. So sad!

We all are gods creation and politicians are discriminating humanity on the bsis of culture, religion & creed. Every one irrespective of religion feels hunger and needs financial earnings to support their family members. When I watch these Arabs how much they support outsides giving employment and chances to come up in life.

To start with, lets talk about basic problem in our place. Our cows are being stolen when left to graze and from the the cowshed itself by targeting poor fly members flashing weapons just for the sake of cheap meat. Is that one agony not enough ? Lets not talk about other things. Now please do not divert that Sanghi people are involved blah blah blah , the same statements until your people are caught with their pants down trying to stuff a cow inside a modified Zen or Omini.
