Hijab row: Respect culture of the land, BJP MP Pratap Simha tells protesting students

Mysuru, Feb 5 (IANS): Karnataka BJP MP Pratap Simha on Saturday kicked up a storm by stating that those advocating 'Sharia laws' should have gone to a separate nation (Pakistan) created during Partition.

He was referring to the 'hijab' row in the state while addressing a press conference.

"If you want to wear hijab, burka, traditional Muslim pants, wear them and go to madrassas. If you (Muslims) want everything according to your whims, you should have gone to another country carved out in 1947. Since you chose to stay back, you have to respect the culture of the land," he asserted.

"To those who question worshipping of Saraswathi, Ganesh and wearing of bangles and vermillion (forehead marks), this is not British India. This is Bharat. The basic foundation of this land is Hinduism. We are not asking permission to wear vermillion bangles in Mecca, Madina or Jerusalem," he said.

"The religions of Islam and Christianity which took birth in desert had come here seeking refuge. Once you seek refuge, you have to respect the culture of land. Islam and Christianity are foreign religions. You don't have any right to question us (Hindus). In spite of 700 years of imposition of Islam culture, we have managed to preserve our culture. You (Muslims) swallowed Iran, Iraq and finished off Roman civilisation but you couldn't finish ours," he claimed.

Reiterating his stand, Pratap Simha said that the Muslims do not have any right to question. Though the Constitution has given equal rights to all but no one has the right to change the native culture. The Supreme Court has said that Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life. No one can question Hindu practices. "If you want to wear a hijab, wear it and go to madrassas instead of colleges, he added."

Hijab row surfaced in the state after few Muslim students insisted on attending classes wearing a 'hijab' at a Pre-University College in Udupi district. They were denied entry. The students have approached the High Court and the ruling BJP government has set up a high level committee to look into the issue.

Meanwhile, the controversy row has spread to more colleges across the state triggering a communal turn as Hindu students have started attending classes with saffron shawls.

A railway recruitment 35000 job openings draws 1.5 crore applications.imagine the state of unemployment we are now .out of which May be 1.4 crore fellow Indians are Hindus . The same students who are wearing the saffron shawl and trying to now stand with The Government. Will have same state after 5-7 years for jobs what their predecessor have now foe jobs The MP like this have become mere spectators for the script provided by their high command and RSS . They need to have courage and guts to admit that Indian economy is really in bad shape . The inflation and prices are at record high . By chanting some slogans or wearing a saffron shawl will bring the prices down and improve the economy . Then it should have been in Last 8 years . As this is the peak. It’s high time we all realize that government has failed in many areas and with time will only fail further . When you have your CM/PM/HM is only bothered of winning elections and spend more than 200 days a year only on campaigning for your party at state expense. How could ground situation improve . You could see when people were dying in UP due to covid , where was their CM busy campaigning in West Bengal . Do U really need such leaders or someone who could stand and work for u on ground . Think over it for a better Índia in future .

Firstly we need to thank modiji As he is able to successfully eradicate unemployment problem in Índia , county has reached to peak low unemployment among youth . Agricultural income has been doubled in last 8 years for all farmers .they were never as happy what they are now . Women safety policy is taken care personally by PM himself, with PM’s beti Bachao Beti padaoo program is allowing all girls across faith to study and pursue education more swiftly . Indian Economy is at the best in last 70 years ,government so much surplus money that we are buying our government owned PSU’s. Since now government doesn’t have anything interesting to do ,so we want so masala news for state owned and funded tv channels , so we are coming with issues like hijab in school and colleges

In North India, Ghoonghat is a headcovering or headscarf, worn by Hindu, Jain, and Sikh women to cover their heads, and sometime their faces. Generally pallu, (the loose end of a sari) is pulled over the head and face to act as a Ghoonghat. A dupatta (long scarf) is also commonly used as a Ghoongat. Whereas, Muslims call it Hijab. I think, if Muslim would have used the name "Ghoonghat" instead of "Hijab", there would have no issues. In short, covering is part of Indian culture and not revealing.

'Lion of Mysuru' - good comparison. Lion is considered as 'king of animals'. So, all animals are his 'citizens'. But when he (lion) feels hungry, definitely he will eat those animals who are considered as his 'citizens'

@Vicky Malhotra, We all know 'Tiger of Mysore'. This so called 'Lion' ka koi itihaas nahi hai. Do shabd badd badaane se koi 'simha' nahi bann jaata. Targetting other religions inka 'pesha' hai. Kaam toh aaj tak kuch kiya nahi..now suddently woke up to target other religions and be in lime light.
