Bengaluru, Jan 5: Despite the spike in Covid-19 and Omicron infection cases in the neighbouring States, the State Government has no plans to close inter-State borders in Belagavi or other districts, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said in Belagavi on Wednesday.

Dr Narayan, who arrived in Belagavi to attend an official programme, told media representatives that all those coming to Karnataka from inter-State borders would be subjected to tests and only those found to be infected would be subjected to restrictions.

However, inter-State movement and other activities will be allowed to go on as before subject to the Covid containment protocols.

The minister said the government has imposed weekend curfew and night curfew restrictions across the State for a fortnight as part of the strategy to ensure that the situation does not go out of hand.

"The intention of the government is to prevent complete lockdown," he clarified.

The minister said pubs, bars, hotels, restaurants, cinema houses, gyms etc. have been allowed to function subject to 50 percent of capacity and adherence to the Covid protocols.

Dr Narayan clarified that the people need not get unnecessarily worried as the State Government is keen to control the spurt in Covid, Omicron cases in Bengaluru. Schools and colleges have also been ordered to be closed for 15 days. Apart from the containment measures, the government has already started vaccination of the children in the age group of 15 to 18 years.

Staff and students of medical colleges are being given booster doses as part of the precautionary measures, he said announcing that the State Government will review the situation after 10 days and take appropriate decisions.

Ashwath....since Omicron is less affective to the lives of the people, allow it to spread all over and let the people to get immune to it for their future and also allow us to sleep peacefully. I have been affected by the common cold and fever several times in my life and never faced this kind of nuisance by the so called Covid experts. If Dr, Biswaroop Choudhary can treat Covid patients without face masks, without any medicines, without ICU, without Oxygen Supply....then why cant you implement the same.....!!!!!???????

Omicron entered via international passengers from EU and south africa if you were smart enough you could have set up a separate system to contain the infected passengers without touching our soil that's how UAE govt has done, learn from them instead of making a BIG SHOW OFF by enforcing weekend curfews.. you politicians are brainless or at least hand over power to CONGRESS there are some smart educated guys on handling critical crisis. DO ANOTHER LOCKDOWN I SWEAR ITS END OF BJP THIS TIME MARK MY WORDS

Government is totally failed in all sectors, now their main aim is to STOP MEKEDATU procession of Congress party. That's all. Reason is omicron virus. If virus is so much serious, first of all they should have closed the border.

This Covid, Omicron also needs to be closed ? People who are scared, want vaccination go for it? Why indirectly forced vaccination, otherwise no entry /access here or there ? Ministers taking vaccinations or saline water or placebo shots ? And looks like more will go to graves with these elite and communist vaccines manufactured in India ? .........Also, Why Covid specially Omicron tally ? Any harm it has done ? to push another round of children's vaccinations and elders with boosters? And MAINLY to blame booster deaths if any ? Communist single dose vaccinations 15%, double dose 30%, booster for delta 50 % corrupting or damaging human Immunity ? And with 4th dose for Omicron, counting days to the Grave ? 5th booster for IHU half of the vaccinated will not be available to take ?
