Govt did not freeze bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity: MHA

New Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS): The Union Home Ministry on Monday clarified that the government has not frozen the bank accounts of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity (MoC) and the State Bank of India has informed that MoC has sent a request to freeze its accounts.

The Ministry also said that the renewal application under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) for the renewal of FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was refused on December 25, 2021 for not meeting the eligibility conditions under FCRA 2010 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules (FCRR) 2011.

It also said that no request or revision application has been received from MoC to review this refusal of renewal.

The MHA clarification came after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday tweeted that the central government froze all bank accounts of the MoC on Christmas and over 22,000 patients and employees have been left without food and medicine.

"While the law is paramount, humanitarian efforts must not be compromised", she further said in her tweet message.

The officials in the Home Ministry further said that Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was registered under FCRA vide Registration No 147120001 and its registration was valid up to Oct 31, 2021 only. The validity was subsequently extended up to December 31, 2021 along with other FCRA Associations whose renewal application was pending, they added.

However, while reviewing the MoC's renewal application, some adverse inputs were noticed. In consideration of these inputs on record, the renewal application of MoC was not approved, the officials further said, adding that the FCRA registration of MoC is valid up to December 31, 2021 and it did not freeze any accounts of MoC, rather the State Bank of India has informed that MoC itself sent a request to freeze its accounts, the Ministry added further.

Though the Missionaries of Charity was not ready to say anything, sources privy to the development said that there were some complaints against the organisation and the central government was keeping an eye on some of its bank accounts.

Central govt freezes bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity

Kolkata, Dec 27 (IANS): In a significant development, the central government has frozen all the bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity -- the non-profit organisation formed by Mother Teresa to help the people.

The central authorities issued orders on Sunday evening to cease all transactions through these bank accounts across India, leaving 22,000 patients and people without any treatment and food.

Though the authorities of Missionaries of Charity were not ready to say anything, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock at the behaviour of the central government.

Mother Teresa

"Shocked to hear that on Christmas, the Union Ministry FROZE ALL BANK ACCOUNTS of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in India! Their 22,000 patients & employees have been left without food & medicines.

"While the law is paramount, humanitarian efforts must not be compromised," she wrote on her verified Twitter account.

CPM leader Surya Kanta Mishra wrote on Twitter, "Yesterday, Christmas Day the Union Ministry FROZED ALL BANK ACCOUNTS of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. The Govt has frozen all the accounts in India, including cash in hand. Their 22,000 patients, including employees, are left without food and medicines."

Though the Missionaries of Charity was not ready to say anything, sources privy to the development said that there were some complaints against the organisation and the central government was keeping an eye on some of its bank accounts. The central government froze all the accounts of the organisation to carry on with the investigation.

Refusing the Renewal application on 25th December that is Christmas Day smacks of deriving Sadistic pleasure out of rejecting such renewal on this Holy Day for Christians. How come when approvals were being given all the past years since framing of the rules in 2011 and rejecting it now ten years later that to on Christmas Day betrays their crude attempt to Harass the Missionaries of Charity in fact Harass and Intimidate the entire Christian Community in India and across the World . the Home Ministry should come clean on the adverse inputs which they claim to have received about the Missionary of Charity ten years since giving annual approvals. It is no coincidence that the Home Ministry rejects the renewal application on Christmas Day to derive maximum Sadistic Pleasure and Harass the organization of the Missionary of Charities displaying total lack of Sensitivity and Crude display of Arrogance of Power.

This is planned attempt by TMC to polarise the votes as the Goa election is nearing. Here the comments are such a childish when they propagating the false narrative that only Christian Institutions are doing charity, What a Joke. There are countless Hindu Charitable Institution are there in India doing charity work in a mega scale, but they are not doing any publicity of their great works.

Buddy hindu charity are helping Hindus but Christians are helping everyone without religious biases. Instead of apologizing you are boasting your arrogance. You will never understand the Christianity until you will read the holy bible or make few minutes to look at the cross where jesus is crucified. Reflect few seconds on the cross and see his suffering. what he says in the bible. Love your neighbors and forgive your enemies. Give everything what you have and follow me and your rewards are stored in heaven. Anyone serve the poor you will be rewardee. Anyone serves in my (jesus) name will be persecuted but I (jesus)will never abdone you. Jesus is real. When you feel him you will love him. Someday you will feel his love directly or indirectly. Till then god bless you and your family. Mother Therersa will pray for you and your family from heaven. Surely her earthly missionary accounts will be frozen by those but she will send a miracle blessing from heaven to her missionary nuns to feed many other ways. Jesus is good and merciful. We Christian's are fasting and praying those who is hearting our charity work. Doesn't matter how powerful the corrupt politicians trying to destroy but poor will suffer but mother Theresa will pray for us.from these evils

All Brahmins and GSB communities who are working abroad must be packed and sent back to India. This is the first to put things in order. Nobody has any right to complain to the authorities for excersing one’s right to religion and convert unless that particular person has experienced a force to get converted and the person alone is welcome to file complaint. Authorities should never encourage and support people’s word as legally final for any conversion and it’s none of their business to interfere in private and personal matters of others.

Dear Vivian Veer, matter here is subjudice. Police is enquiring if there were forced conversion done by Missionaries of Charity org. This organisation is being alleged by forcing Hindu girls wear cross & if they made them read bible. Until they come clean, foreign fund transfer is stopped. MHA & GOI has not frozen their bank account unlike what your sister Mamtha Banerjee alleged. If they are clean and if there were no conversions done by them, why to worry? Automatically fund transfer will be allowed & even you can send money.

Precursor to what can be anticipated. Already signals appear in the form of Anti-conversion laws in several states. I am sure you don't know the social work these churches have been doing. Ask any student who studied in christian school whether he has been asked to convert. I studied in catholic institutions all my life including St. Aloysious College. They never discriminated based on religion. All poor were given subsidised lunch without looking into religion. They just looked at economic condition of students and helped all without looking into religion.

Giving health care needs more capital (As Doctors and nurses are paid multiple times than cooks & Labourers) than giving food by employing cooks and labourers. in how many temples all Hindus (Brahmins and others) can sit together and eat together....????? Forget about eating together......at least enter together...????

May god be with you and protect you 🙏 The good you did for others without looking into their cast will not go far. You have always earned and looked after the poorest of the poor and roadside unwanted people with great respect and love. Many bedridden patients have recovered and lived a peaceful life in their hands. Uneducated and orphaned children have got shelter under their care. So many people have died a peaceful death in their hands and they have been given death rights according to their religion. This was possible only with the generous hands of good and human hearted people of India and the world. Many people have helped these missionaries without looking into their religion. May god bless their families in hundred folds. God is watching everything. Good you do for others will recieve it back. There are many good hearted people out there to take care of you. May god bless you. Trust in God who created us. We came in this world without anything. But God provided us with everything. If he has given us life, he will show us the way to live. Jai Hind.

Central Government is being run by goons. They don't know about the good works done by Missionaries of Charity. It was governments duty to look after the people but government is busy in looting public and filling pockets of politicians.

I am pretty sure that..., probably there is a concerted modus operandi behind this heinous / insane / jealous action by the Govt Agencies at the behest of Jokaras....., they would have constructed evidence by channelize the monitory benefits to the accounts of the Organization..., to justify the action.... to claim the perpetrators innocence..., My views will go ...... couple of more days..., then I will be an oblivion from Daiji board...!
