Wasps Kill Special Olympics Gold Winner


Shimla, Oct 18 (IANS): A player of the gold medal winning team that participated in the last Special Olympics in China was stung to death by wasps in Himachal Pradesh, an official said here Monday.

The wasps attacked Vikram, 21, when he was working in fields in Balh Bhalwana village near Bilaspur town Sunday.

He was rushed to a hospital where he died, president of the Himachal Special Olympics Committee Mallika Nadda told IANS.

She said Vikram was part of the volleyball Indian team that won gold in the XII Special Olympics World Games (summer version) in Shanghai in 2007.

The Special Olympics World Games (winter and summer versions) are held every four years for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
