Three arrested in Saharanpur over alleged arms trafficking; firearms, 425 cartridges seized

Saharanpur, Oct 2: Three alleged members of an illegal arms trafficking gang were arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, following a joint operation by the Saharanpur Police and Meerut Special Task Force (STF), police said on Friday.

The accused were arrested on Thursday during a checking operation near an orchard along the Sherpur-Pelo road, following a tip-off. They were identified as Asad Khan, Ikram and Danish, all residents of Saharanpur district.

 

Police recovered seven illegal firearms, including a pump-action gun, two 12-bore guns, a double-barrel gun, two country-made rifles and a country-made pistol. Three airguns, a sword, 425 cartridges of different types and an SUV were also seized from their possession.

A case has been registered against the accused, who were produced before a court.

The Meerut STF is investigating how the accused allegedly procured the firearms and ammunition and to whom they intended to supply them. Investigators are also examining their mobile phones and social media contacts to identify other members of the alleged network.
