Mangaluru: First PU classes in district from Sep 16 amid strict Covid guidelines

Mangaluru, Sep 15: The department of PU education has decided to begin PU first year physical classes from September 16 onward by following Covid guidelines.

Dakshina Kannada district deputy director in PU education department, Jayanna, said that the principals have been instructed to split the first and second PU students through standard operating procedure and hold the classes in the afternoons.

For the students coming from Kerala on a daily basis, online classes will be preferred. If they choose to attend classes here every day from Kerala, they need to bring negative RT-PCR test reports once in seven days. Same applies to teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges. Consent letters from the parents is compulsory and those who do not want to attend physical classes can opt to continue to attend classes online, he explained.

The department has barred holding of mass prayers, meetings, cultural and sports activities. All the staff have to get themselves RT-PCR tested voluntarily once in 15 days. This fact is included in the instructions issued to the principals.

Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr Rajendra K V, stated that physical classes for the final year degree classes of Mangalore University will begin on September 17. He clarified that guidelines would be published on Wednesday.
