Two riders fall to death from Bengaluru flyover after speeding car hits them

Bengaluru, Sep 15 (IANS): Two persons were killed after they fell from the Electronics City flyover when a speeding car knocked down a two-wheeler in Bengaluru, police said.

The accident happened on Tuesday night. The deceased have been identified as Preetam (30) and Kritika (28), both worked for an MNC company in the city and hailed from Tamil Nadu. The driver of the speeding car was identified as Nitesh and has been admitted to a hospital as he suffered serious injuries.

The deceased were travelling towards Hosur in Tamil Nadu from Bengaluru. Their identities were traced by late in the night on Tuesday and their parents are said to arrive here on Wednesday morning. The bodies of the victims have been kept at Saint John's hospital mortuary.

According to police, Preetam and Kritika were travelling on a Bullet bike on the Electronics City flyover. The car driver while overtaking another vehicle lost control and hit the median. The vehicle veered to the extreme left and hit the bike. The car came to halt only after hitting the wall of the expressway.

As an impact, the young couple were tossed off the elevated road. They fell from 40 feet height to the surface road. Both suffered severe head injuries and succumbed on the spot, said police.

The residents of Singasandra rushed to the spot and informed the police.

The wall of the Expressway was damaged in the accident. Police have removed both the two-wheeler,which was stuck on the wall, and car involved in the accident from the flyover. The Electronics City traffic police are investigating the case.

I am still a strong proponent of not letting 2-wheelers and Rickshaws on that road. Majority of the vehicles are either long distance vehicles or those diabetics that wants to have their next pee in their office in electronics city. The roads below are wide enough to accommodate 2 wheelers and autoricks (whose top speed according to guidelines by the city traffic cannot exceed 30 Km/hr. Top speed allowed for 2 wheelers is not more than 40 km/hr on any road within Bangalore.

Really sad to read this tragic accident in which two precious lives has been lost . I presume this must be a case of over speeding . No doubts nowadays the roads are much better in some stretches of city , which gives a temptation of over speeding , especially for the Gen Y.. A possible suggestion to explore. : I feel as part of road development project , Govt must install speed detection radars at critical areas like curvature of the roads , where the vehicle tends to veer off the road due to high speed. The alerts of such over speeding must be immediately relayed to the vehicle in some form , either visual / audio Nowadays most of the new generation vehicles are having GPS / Internet connectivity and users/ drivers have smartphones. Can some brainstorming be done in this areas. Bangalore is India's global IT hub. Lets harness technology to save precious lives in future.

This is not the first serious accident on this elevated...rd ....... The elevated toll initially was not meant for 2 wheelers .. later not clear ..officially or unofficially opened for 2 wheeler to improve toll revenue .. The cost was approx 800 crores All that was needed was about 4 to 5 underpasses From Silk Board to Electronic City each @ Rs 20 crores with some road widening .... It was a glamorous project .. IT BT ETC ETC .. One can travel from below and check overall time saving The signals are the issue which underpass could have solved .. Also ....We find trucks / goods vehicles going on. Top ...elevated ..and not sure if overall .... 5 to 10 mins would make a big difference Considering toll payment which is quite high ...

Madness of the car driver has taken two innocent lives.... very sad & tragic. RIP Preetam and Kritika. Granting Driver license to many of these idiotic drivers is like granting them licence to kill innocents.

The flyover is very narrow..it hardly manages 2 cars on each side...this is actually the case with almost all flyovers of Bangalore...only option According to me is one way...even if a seperate lane for bikes...

This flyover should be made two wheeler free. Its just due to safety reasons. I have been travelling in this flyover ever since it was open and always thought this is not safe for two wheeler. There is barely two lane in one side. This makes very difficult to drive and most of the vehicle either too slow or too fast for a elevated road.

Really sad.....Complete negligence of the car driver by driving in 160 speed and killed the lives of 2 people..Really Bad ....Same type of accident happened 5 years back in Bommanahalli fly over.2 people in the bike died....The license of car driver should be canceled for careless driving and also should be arrested....

No.. No use... Some technical solution is needed like detecting the unnecessary over speed and auto control the vehicle from hitting or speeding further. Technology is already there. Implementation is very urgent.
