Karkala: Speeding car hits auto rickshaw, kills its driver

Karkala, Aug 31: A Tavera vehicle which came at high speed at Noojiguri road bend at Ajekar in the taluk rammed into an auto rickshaw. In this accident which happened on the evening of Monday August 30, the auto rickshaw driver, who suffered critical injuries, lost his life.

Shekhar Moolya (55) from Balje in Andaru village, who was driving the auto rickshaw, died instantly in the accident. He was returning to Kaduhole auto rickshaw stand after dropping off a passenger from Kaduhole, when a Tavera vehicle which came at high speed from the direction of Donderangady hit his auto rickshaw. The car which came to extreme right of the road after the accident, toppled into the drain. The fact that the backside wheel of the car was ripped off in the accident, gave indication of the gravity of the accident.

In the accident, Shekhar suffered deep injuries to his head and legs. The auto rickshaw was badly mangled. Locals helped to bring out the body of Shekhar which was stuck in the mangled remains of the auto rickshaw.

The Tavera driver, Sannidh Shetty, resident of Donderangady Modubettu, was returning to Padubidri after attending an engagement function at Perdoor, it is said. Before hitting the auto rickshaw, his vehicle had hit a scooter at Guddeangady. Within minutes he hit the auto rickshaw. Eyewitnesses said that the accident happened as the car driver was drunk. The police have taken custody of the Tavera driver. A case has been registered n Ajekar police station.

    It is very unfortunate incident which occurred. If the car driver was drunk then he should be punished. Feeling bad for the wife and kids who lost their breadwinner.
