Mangaluru: PAGE holds meeting to observe 'World Alzheimers Month'

Mangaluru, Aug 31: "These being pandemic times we have a greater responsibility to reach out to our suffering elders in society, and today Parkinson's disease is affecting more people and we must address that in our observation of World Alzheimers Month this year," emphasized Dr Prabha Adhikari, president of PAGE, People's Association for Geriatric Empowerment, who is also the head of Geriatric department, Yenepoya Medical College. She was speaking at the meeting of PAGE members at Hotel Ocean Pearl on monday evening.

Dr Raghuveer, former pro-vice chancellor, Yenepoya Deemed to be University convened the meeting and gave details of the structure of planning for the activities of the World Alzheimers Month.

Jerardin D Souza, founder director- MAA Mangaluru Alzheimers Association and secretary of PAGE, emphasized on the importance of various media, including social media in reaching to reach out to society in these troubled pandemic times. "We will share and inform the public of all our activities for elders during this World Alzheimers Month like, memory test, memory games, physical check ups, singing, memory quiz competitions, online Zoom meetings, Alzheimers Doll, involvement of students and general public, at the press conference," informed Jerardin D Souza.

Loretta Pinto, CEO, Susheg Trust, which is managing the only Alzheimers Care Centre in the whole of Dakshina Kannada district, volunteered to share her experiences and insights on Alzheimers Dementia at the Zoom meetings that will be conducted during the Alzheimers Month.

Usha Hebbar, head of Spoorthi Trust and Mohanraj, CEO, Bright HR, and joint secretary/treasurer of PAGE coordinated and organized the World Alzheimers Month launch program at and observation of World Alzheimers Day program on September 21, at Kadri Park, Mangaluru.

All further details of activities of the World Alzheimer's Month will be shared during the press conference informed Jerardin D Souza.
