Vijayapura, Aug 30: Devendra Bheemaaya Sangogi (35), who had been arrested relating to the rape of a minor girl, committed suicide inside Sindagi police station on Sunday August 29.

A person named Tara Singh Rathod had complained to the police on August 27, claiming that his daughter had been raped by Sangogi. The police who registered the case had arrested the accused on Saturday. At night, he tried to commit suicide inside the toilet. The police who noticed this, admitted him into the district hospital at Vijayapura. However, his life could not be saved.

District superintendent of police, H D Anand Kumar, said that the investigation of the incident will be entrusted to the criminal investigation department.

In the meantime, holding the police responsible for the death of Sangogi, his mother, relatives, villagers and activists of different organizations held protest in the police station premises on Sunday.
