Kundapur, Apr 5: "BJP government ruling at the Centre and state has implemented anti-farmer and anti-labour laws for the convenience of corporate companies. These laws, which are against the interest of the commoners, should be immediately withdrawn," urged U Basavaraja, CPI(M) state committee secretary.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, here, at the Press Club, Basavaraja said, "The union government has implemented five agricultural laws which are against the farmers including Agreement Agricultural Act, Electricity Amendment Act, which privatizes the electricity sector, APMC Amendment Act, Land Reformation Amendment Act, anti-cow slaughter bill and four anti-labour laws. Amendment to the Essential Commodities Act should be withdrawn immediately. Privatization and selling of public sector industries like banks, insurance, BSNL, aviation, railway and water transport should be stopped."

"Though the farmers all across the country are vehemently opposing the stand of the union government for six months, the government is not bothered and instead they are suppressed. CPI(M) is urging the union government to consider the suggestion of Dr M S Swaminathan and provide a necessary loan, fixing support prices for crops, waiver of loans in case of natural calamities and loan-free act in the model of Kerala," he added.

Basavaraja urged CM Yediyurappa to show real concern towards the public to protect them from the second wave of Covid-19 and said that it is not possible to control the virus by guidelines and verbal statements. There is a need for strict actions with the necessary help. Those who are affected with coronavirus are losing their lives as there are no suitable facilities in government hospitals and the private hospitals are not affordable. Government has to take necessary action to improve this situation. It has to provide 10 kg of food grains and Rs 7,500 monthly assistance to families that do not come under the limits of income tax.

K Shankar of the CPI(M) state committee, district secretary, K Balakrishna Shetty and CITU state president, Varalaxmi were present.
