CM, home minister at State Police Flag Day function

Bengaluru, Apr 2: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa participated in the Police Flag Day celebrations held at the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) Parade Grounds in Koramangala in Bengaluru on Friday.

The Chief Minister was given a ceremonial welcome and took the guard of honour from the State Police along with State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

After receiving the salute, Yediyurappa presented the awards to policemen who had done exemplary work in their posts.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is also the minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, said the Chief Minister has been extending every possible support to the police department. The State Government has sanctioned Rs 20 crore for extending the Aarogya Bhagya scheme to cover even retired police officers.

The Chief Minister has agreed to the proposal for filling up the vacant posts in the police department and the allowance for policemen on bandobast duty has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 200. The Chief Minister has given full support for the modernization of police force and bring about a comprehensive change in the functioning, Bommai said.

The Home Minister lamented that some vested interests come in the way of the investigations by the police in their work, especially in dealing with sensitive and complex criminal cases. It is the duty of police to fearlessly discharge their duties and carry forward with the investigation work impartially without bothering about the criticism and obstacles.

Training in Self-Defence to College Girls

Stressing the need for women to equip themselves to protect themselves, Bommai said the police department has taken steps to provide training in self-defence to college girls. The Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) is ready to take up the initiative, he said.

Pointing out the tough vigilance measures and policing work by the department during the last few years has resulted in seizure of maximum quantities of contraband drugs, the Home Minister said the police have raided the hoarders of drugs in different parts of the State as part of the war on illegal drugs trade.

Bommai said the State Government has taken steps to establish forensic science laboratories in all districts and also launched tough measures to check cyber-crimes. The State Police force has been able to check growing incidence of frauds in the banking sector with the help of the Reserve Bank of India, he said complimenting the work of the State Police.

Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Rajneesh Goel, State Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police Praveen Sood and other senior police officers were present.
