Bengaluru: High court takes Karnataka to task over restrictions on Kerala border

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 20: Karnataka has imposed restrictions on the entry of people from Kerala into Karnataka by road at the borders, duly stipulating COVID negative certificates. This was done in view of the hike in the number of coronavirus positive cases in Kerala and the resultant risks Karnataka faced as a large number of people from Kerala come to Karnataka on a daily basis to attend schools and colleges besides working.

The high court took serious objections to the restrictions, duly questioning Karnataka how was it justified in allowing people coming by flights to go scot free while creating bottlenecks for others.

Advocate B Subbayya Rai, has filed a public interest litigation questioning the restrictions imposed at the border by Karnataka. This petition was examined by a division bench presided over by Chief Justice A S Oka.

The bench expressed strong displeasure at the revised order issued by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner on March 15. It noted that the order was not in conformity with rules and that it was issued without exercising discretion. It felt that this order will have to be withdrawn.

Karnataka govt, as my openion, is a "media govt". Some days ago some kannada tv channels critisised on KSRTC buses which carry people between Kasaragod and Mangaluru. After a couple of days the govt order regarding checking at borders was released. An oeder on Fees collection in private schools also was released by govt after tv channels made it an issue. So, our Karnataka govt listens only tv issues. Tv channels are more valuable than courts fot karnataka govt. Till now, no court has accepted karnataka's stend on closure of border roads. Is there no one in karnataka govt who knows all these things? Why they again and again do same mistake and make confusion in people?

Now please impose restriction on air travellers of Kerala. High Court judges sit in air conditioned room, work remotely via video conference, travel safely to home by Air conditioned car. We common people are the sufferers. We hereby stand with Dakshina Kannada DC and Karnataka Govt.
