Mangaluru: Coronavirus - DC proposes check posts at three Kerala entry points

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 17: In accordance with the state health department's instructions to ensure that people visiting the state from Kerala on a daily basis need to compulsorily be in possession of coronavirus negative test certificates (RT-PCR), the administration plans to set up check posts at three main entry points in the district connecting Kerala where rapid antigen tests are proposed to be performed. This was stated by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V.

He said that people coming to hostels, resorts, hostels, home stay and other such places in the state have to be possession of RT-PCR test negative certificates which should be shown at the check posts.

The tests should be not more than 72 hours old. The samples of positive cases will be tested at the laboratory at NIMHANS Bengaluru, he said.

Kbr, Imagine people from the same place for eg. Mangalore not being bothered to wear a mask or take adequate precautions. Only if you've been to Kerala recently you know the drill there. Strict fines if you're seen without a mask. But is that the case seen here in Mangalore? NO! Has anyone ever got fined for not wearing a mask? NO. Authorities have taken no serious actions against people flouting the necessary precautions that needs to be undertaken.

I really don't think its JUST the students who aren't wearing masks, look at the public! Look at the buses that run, auto drivers, bus drivers, people who sit at the restaurant counters. . Do you see them wearing masks? It's high time the district authorities take strict action against those who aren't wearing masks, be it the students, public whoever. Covid is majorly spread via aerosols, as we are now aware. Even if masks don't stop the spread, thats the least we could do to slow the spread. Vaccines are long time away from reaching us. The only option we have now is to wear masks. The least we can do.

@Daniel take a picture on your mobile, if you know where the person stays or works send the details to the district health officer DHO, of Dakshin Kannada, (if you are staying in Mangalore) by email. You will get the email id on the net.

We need to start enforcing stricter rules about wearing of mask here in Mangalore itself. People who've been to Kerala know it's a whole different story there. You do not come actoss a single person without a mask in Kerala. But unfortunately that is not the situation here in Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada, where you rarely come across a person wearing mask. Public need to be made more aware about the dire consequences of not wearing a mask!

People (students) from Kerala do not wear masks in Karnataka, I have sent photos to the district health officer, and asked him to take action. Though I personally do not believe that masks can prevent spread of the virus ,one has to obey the rules, and I do.

Dear Daniel, Mangalore If the tests and checks are only for those who will be staying in resorts / hotels, why should they conduct checks in THREE ENTRY POINTS? They can conduct checks near such resorts / hostels. If they are aiming to conduct checks at ENTRY POINTS TO THE DISTRICT, will they check all the people who pass through those check posts? Is it possible? If they are not checking everyone who pass through that check post how do they know why does a person visit the district? If these proposed checks will be implemented, the ksrtc buses which travel between Kerala and Karnataka will be stopped.

If the travellers come straight from kerala to hotel resort etc OK if they enter city centre forum mall before entering the hotel what will happen? You try stopping a thief before the act or after the act? (I'm not calling keralites as their just an example)

Visitors might print their own Negative certificates... having freeze on to and from travel to that state is the effective solution...
