Puttur, Mar 18: The determination and surrender are the virtues to lead worthy life, said Sri Prasannateerta Swami of Subramanya Mutt.

Swami Prasannateerta was speaking on the auspicious occasion of inaugurating the Brahma Rath that was donated by Muttappa Rai to Sri Mahalingeshwar Temple here on Wednesday March 17.

“Temple celebrations are only complete with Ratotsava.  Meanwhile, our human body is similar to a Rath.  The soul being the driver who leads it to eternity”, said Swami Prasannateerta.

Sri Rajashekaranand Swami of Vajradehi Mutt said that India is the abode of both science and spirituality.  “Both theists and atheists exist in our country and nothing moves without the grace of God, hence life should be pursued as religion”, he added.

Sri Dharmapalanath Swami of Mangalore branch of Adichunchanagiri Mutt said that a human being who has lost faith in religion and self-esteem will pose great danger to the society.  “One should live life by realizing this purpose in order to get eternal bliss.  Selfless service can lead to God”, he added.

MLA Mallika Prasad presided over the programme.

Former state minister Amarnath Shetty, MPs D V Sadanand Gowda and Nalin Kumar Kateel, zilla panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, taluk panchayat president Savitri H S, town councilor Rajesh Bannur, and former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake were present on the dais.

Lecturer Narendra Rai Derla in his introductory address said that the Brahma Rath has been offered to Sri Mahalingeshwar Temple, with the intention of enabling the general public to join the worship rather than restrict the privilege to a few devotees within the sanctum.

A procession of head load offerings was held from Darbe till the temple. Taluk revenue sub-division officer Dr Harish Kumar inaugurated the procession of head load offerings.

Temple administration officer Y Shivaramayya accepted the offerings. Welcome committee president N Sudhakar Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Mangalore forest conservator Manjunath Shetty proposed vote of thanks while Prof B J Suvarna compered the programme.
