Super Series Masters Finals: Indians Lose Title Clash

Johor Bahru, Dec 7: India's Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta lost to top seeds Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark in mixed doubles final of the World Super Series Masters Finals badminton here Sunday.

Jwala and Diju, ranked world No. 7, put up a strong resistance before going down 14-21, 18-21 in the $500,000 event at the Johor Bahru City Stadium.

The Indian pair had defeated Poland's Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk in the semi-finals Saturday.

Malaysian Lee Chong Wei and Mew Choo Wong won the men's and singles title respectively.

World No.1 and top seed Chong Wei, who is also the defending champion, beat Sung Hwan Park 21-17, 21-17 while Mew Choo Wong defeated German Juliane Schenk 21-15, 21-7 in women's singles final.

In men's doubles, Korean pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae defeated second seeded Denmark's Mogensen Carsten and Boe Mathias 21-15, 21-15

In women's doubles, Eei Hui Chin and Pei Tty Wong, number one seeds, got the better of Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Lena Frier Kristiansen of Denmark 21-17 21-14.
