Mangalore: Prohibitory Orders in District till December 7
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Dec 5: Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been enforced in the entire Dakshina Kannada district from 6 am on Saturday December 5, to 6 pm on Monday December 7. Additional district deputy commissioner and additional district magistrate, S A Prabhakar Sharma, promulgated the orders.

The orders stipulate that other than the public meetings and functions being organized by the government, as well as religious and cultural programmes already scheduled, holding of all other public meetings, functions or protest processions has been banned during the said period.

December 6 happens to be the day on which Babri Masjid had been demolished in the year 1992. It is likely that Hindus may indulge in victory celebrations in commemoration of the event, while the Muslims observe it as black day. As Dakshina Kannada district is considered to be communally hyper sensitive, and in view of the fact that recent unhappy incidents in the district and the neighbouring Kasargod district, have turned the situation communally sensitive, the prohibitory orders have been issued to maintain law and order, he has explained.
