Mangaluru, Nov 7: Yenepoya School annual Sports Meet 2019, took place on November 6, at the Mangala stadium, Lalbagh, here. Dinesh Kunder, officer from Central Excise and Central Tax was the chief guest while Javeed Yenepoya, director of The Yenepoya Group presided over the event. Joseph Mechirath, principal, Mishria Javeed, campus director and Reshma Nayak, vice-principal were the other dignitaries.

The Sports Day commenced with the Guard of Honour led by the school band, followed by a prayer and the school anthem. A parade by the school-cabinet members was accompanied by the school band followed by the introduction of the four houses, namely, Ruby, Sapphire, Jasper and Emerald.

The programme was compered by the campus co-ordinator, Anil D’Sa. Fathimath Shaida of Grade 9 delivered the welcome speech and welcomed the gathering. She also introduced the chief guest while the principal, Joseph Mechirath, delivered a general welcome address. The school flag was hoisted by the chief guest followed by Torch Light Run and lighting of the Olympic Flame led by the sports captain Hamdan Ahmed of Grade 10. The Oath of Sportsmanship was preached by the sports captain Vindhya G Bhandary. Dinesh Kunder released balloons representing the school colours declaring the Sports Meet open.

Dinesh Kunder in his address encouraged the students to dedicate time for physical exercise and stressed on the importance of physical and mental well being.

The students then showcased various performances which they are trained in throughout the year like Yoga, Adventure Club Activities, Karate and Zumba. The formal programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Liyana Ahisha Rahmath of grade 10.

Track events like 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, fastest runner 100 meter and 4 x 100 meter relay, for both junior and senior categories were held for the budding athletes of the school. A special event, Tug-of-War, was then conducted for all the teaching and non-teaching staff members. Ruby House emerged overall champions, led by their house captain, Abudurrahman Kola and house vice-captain, Deepali. They also won The Rolling Shield for the year 2019 – 2020.

The annual Sports Meet 2019-2020 then culminated on a winning note with the lowering of the school flag, followed by the National Anthem.
