Modi leaves for Bangkok, flags India concerns on RCEP

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS): As he embarked on a three-day visit to Bangkok, Thailand, for the ASEAN-related summits, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India will take stock of progress in the RCEP negotiations, and "consider all issues including whether India's concerns and interests in trade in goods, services, and investments are being fully accommodated".

Modi left on a three-day visit to Bangkok where he will attend the 16th ASEAN-India Summit on November 3 and the 14th East Asia Summit and the third RCEP Summit on November 4.

On the proposed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) mega deal between the 10-nation ASEAN and six nations, including India, he said: "At the RCEP Summit, we will take stock of the progress in RCEP negotiations. We will consider all issues including whether India's concerns and interests in trade in goods, services, and investments are being fully accommodated, during this Summit."

During the visit, Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of other world leaders present at Bangkok.

"The ASEAN-related summits are an integral part of our diplomatic calendar, and an important element in our Act East Policy," he said in a departure statement.

India's partnership with the 10-nation Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) is built around the key pillars of connectivity, capacity-building, commerce and culture, he said.

Modi will be reviewing with ASEAN partners "our cooperative activities, and examining plans for strengthening ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms, enhancing connectivity (sea, land, air, digital and people-to-people), deepening economic partnerships, and expanding maritime cooperation".

At the East Asia Summit (EAS) he would be "reviewing significant regional and global issues on the agenda of the EAS, and examining the state of our current programmes and projects. I will also focus on our Indo-Pacific strategy, on which I am happy to note strong convergences with ASEAN partners and others at the EAS".

Modi will also participate in a Special Leaders luncheon event on November 4, organised by the Prime Minister of Thailand, as Chair of ASEAN, on sustainability.

He will also attend a reception organised by the Indian community in Thailand on November 2. People of Indian origin, and Non-Resident Indians have made significant contributions to Thailand and to the important relationship India shares with the Kingdom of Thailand, he added.

Modi can't stay in his homeland.
He had visited hundreds of countries so far and several times.
Indian economy is getting worse than worst.
All his foreign tours expenditure could have been spent on world bank debt by India . It would have benefited India rather than useless tour expenditure.

What can an ignorant government suppressing voices of reason/opposition do to a country?
This is a good case study.
Maduro was elected as President of Venezula on a renewed fervour of nationalism. By then, Venezula was
    - 3rd largest producer of coal in Latin America
    - 2nd Largest Gold reserves in the world.
    - 6th Largest Oil reserves in the world. Highest in Latin America. More than Canada, Mexico and USA combined.
    - Rich in iron ore, Bauxite, and a gold mine for minerals.
And this is what 10 years of bad governance and ignorance has brought Venezuela to:
    - 75% of the population had lost an average of over 8 kg in weight.
    - More than half doesnt have income for basic food.
    - 94% of Venezuelans live in poverty.
    - 10% of Venezuelans have left their country.
    - 81.4 per 100,000 people killed in 2018, making it the third most violent country in the world.
    - In 2014, it entered an economic recession
    - In 2016, Venezuela entered hyperinflation. The inflation rate reached 274% in 2016, 863% in 2017, 130,060% in 2018, 282,973% in April 2019 and 4,679% in September 2019. Since 2016, the overall inflation rate has increased to 53,798,500%.
You get the drift? Economy cannot be taken for granted. Bad governance has brought a mineral rich, oil rich nation to its knees. And it can happen to any country. Keep your eyes open. Question. Critique. Ask. Don't be a cheer leader. Don't be a blind supporter. Your questioning doesn't bring down a government. Your critique is not a vote. A good citizen votes every 5 years and questions every day. Open your eyes. Ask. Worry. Speak up. Speak out.
