Mangalore: 'Take Pledge Not to Use Technology for Wrong Purposes'

Mangalore, Dec 9: “Never be afraid to face terror” said Prof V B Cutinho former vice-chancellor of Gulbarga University, speaking to the third outgoing batch of students of St Joseph Engineering College on the Graduation Day.  “Terrorists use the most modern communication technology and if not for modern gadgets, they would not be successful.  We should take pledge never to use technology for wrong purposes, but use it for the development of rural India”, he added. “Copyright, trademark and patents are intellectual properties, developed after years of hard work and should not be subjected to misuse.  When we respect our freedom, our rights and our responsibilities, we have a bright future”. 

He was speaking as the chief guest at the graduation day ceremony of the third batch of St Joseph's Engineering College, Vamanjoor, near here.  Earlier, he presented the degree certificates to the third batch of outgoing students.  

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore lauded the students for their hard work and asked them to live upto the ideals of ‘Service and Excellence' enshrined in the motto of the college.  He wished them a bright future in their career and called upon them to work hard for the country’s progress as young engineers.

Earlier principal Dr Joseph Gonsalves welcomed and director Fr Valerian D’Souza spoke on the significance of the graduation ceremony.  Dean Prof Jayakar Hegde administrated the graduation oath.  Dean Prof Eric Patrao read the list of gold winners and heads of departments invited the students to receive their degree certificates.  Assistant director Fr Henry Mascarenhas proposed the vote of thanks.
