Mangalore: Ministers Assure Adequate Support to Cashew Industry in District

Mangalore, Nov 23: ‘Munnota-2020’, jointly organized by Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers’ Association and Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPC) was held at Suprabata in Bejai Kapikad on Saturday November 22.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Oscar Fernandes, union labour minister, said that the cashew business has a lot of opportunity for development in the country. He assured that the central government would give prominence to this matter.

Cashew saplings must be planted on barren land. The developmental value of cashew must be adopted and its packaging and quality must be safeguarded, he suggested.  India should inculcate all qualities required to be a leader in the world’s cashew business, said Dr V S Acharya, state home minister.

The cashew saplings can be planted on sterile lands of Dakshina Kannada district and the government will encourage it, added Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, speaking on the occasion. MLA Yogish Bhat, B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman, Coastal Area Development Authority, D Gopalkrishna Kamath, president, Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers’ Association, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, vice-president, Walter D’Souza, president, CEPC, and G Giridhar Prabhu, were among those present.
