Mangaluru, May 9: Konkani movie 'Sophiya' by Janet Productions is all set to hit theatres across Mangaluru on Friday on May 12, informed producer of the movie Janet Noronha.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday May 9, Janet Noronha said, "'Sophiya' is a complete family entertainer and a big budget Konkani movie. 'Sophiya' movie will be released at Prabhath Theatre. Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, NRI entrepreneur Ronald Colaco, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes and wife Blossom Fernandes, MLC Ivan D'Souza, and MLA J R Lobo will take part in the release ceremony of the movie.

"There will be shows at Prabhat, Cinepolis and Big Cinemas. In the coming day we will release this movie in Karkala, Moodbidiri, Udupi, Manipal, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa and also in the United Kingdom and the UAE. Prabhath will have four shows, Big Cinemas two shows and Cinepolis one," she informed.

"'Noshibacho Khell' fame Harry Fernandes has directed the film. Multi-lingual actress Ester Noronha, Elton Mascarenhas and Shelton Crasta are playing the lead roles in the film, while Prince Jacob and Richard Sequeira will be seen in prominent roles. Music has been composed by Gunavanth Sen and the movie comprises six songs. The movie has been shot across Palimar, Belman, Kalianpur, Mumbai and Chikkamagaluru," she added.

Director Harry Fernandes said, "When I was making 'Noshibacho Khell' movie, producer Janet Noronha was impressed with my work and approached me to do a film called 'Sophiya'. So we started working in it. The budget was double compared to 'Noshibacho Khell'. We have produced a quality movie which is a complete package of entertainment for the audience. I have experience of directing Marathi and Bhojpuri movies and now it feels good to do another Konkani movie."

Actor Shelton Crasta said, "This is my first movie and director Harry Fernandes has given me this opportunity with his eyes closed and believed in my talent. Initially I was unsure whether I would be able to play this role or not, but the director and the co-stars of this film encouraged me. 'Sophiya' movie will definitely be a family entertainer."

Actor Elton Mascarenhas assured that whoever goes to the theatre to watch this movie would not get bored and expressed confidence that the movie would get a good feedback.

Congratulations to all the organizers who are instrumental in creating the Konkany movie "Sophiya". If it is available in dvd we would be happy to have a copy. Movies on the screen will promote our language and our culture in and around Mangalore. If it is available in dvd so much the better so that we can witness the movie in the company of many others in a foreign land where we can proudly display our language, our home scenes and our music too.

We have not seen a Konkany movie on the screen after the last one we witnessed at the Central Talkies in Mangalore, and that was the movie called "Mogh and Maypass" produced by Capt. Merwyn Pinto.
