Bangalore: Konkan Catholic Association Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Bangalore, Jul 20: Konkan Catholic Association , Mathikere, Bangalore celebrated its 40th Anniversary on Sunday, 15th July ,  2007, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore.  

The programme began with the welcome dance by the students of Gulabi Girls School at 4:30 pm, followed by  lighting of the lamp by our Chief Guest Archbishop of Bangalore Rt Dr Bernard Moras and Guest of honour  Valerian Fernandes, Chairman of Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations, Karnataka





Charles Gomes, President of Konkan Catholic Association, welcomed the gathering.

A souvenir was released by the Archbishop of Bangalore Rt. Dr. Bernard Moras and the website www.konkanbhavan.com was launched by Valerian Fernandes, Chairman of FKCA.  Website was designed by Vinod Saldanha.

A book “Brilliant Strides” , on the biography of Late. A. V. Rego, founder of KCA was also released by the Archbishop. This book was originally written in Konkani by Vally Vagga and Vitorri Karkal and was translated to English by Edwin J D’souza.


Vice President , Mr.Anil Rego announced Scholarships, a new objective set by the KCA. The fund was raised to educate poor children.  Kanara Entrepreneurs Ltd, Dubai,  Ronald Colaco and family, Bangalore,  Deccan group of companies, Bangalore and Brilliant Printers Pvt Ltd , Bangaloreare the main donours for this fund as of now.   KCA will be giving the following scholarships from the interest generated by this fund.

Deccan Group Scholarship
A.V. Rego Scholarship

Archbishop in his speech applauded the service rendered by KCA by providing hostel accommodation to the needy . He also appreciated the idea of Scholarships.  He urged all the associations to organise a marriage fund which will help poor girls to begin their family.  They otherwise would remain unmarried due to financial problems.









This was followed by the much awaited drama “ Tho Maka Naka” ,  which was enacted by KCA members and was directed by  Victor Pereira  . The drama was well accepted by the audience and all of them enjoyed to their hearts content.. 

The programme was compered by Priyanka Madtha and vote of thanks was proposed by Irene Sequeira. Gerald D'souza gave the mementos to all the artists.

Naveen Rodrigues, Secretary gave a Power Point presentation on the Associations activities.  The Hall was packed with a crowd of more than 1000 people.

    I am glad to see your 40th Anniversary of Konkan Catholic Association function held at Bangalore on internet. I am also a Non-resident working in Saudi and my family has settled down in Bangalore. I would like to be a member of of this Association.
