Puttur, Jul 19: Even as the news about robbery in four houses by alleged Naxalites near Agumbe is fresh in the minds of people, a group of Naxalites visited a house near Hatyadka near Uppinangady here on Wednesday July 18 night.

The incident, which is first of its kind in the vicinity, has created tension and panic in the minds of residents.  Though police have already arrived on the spot, people are in a state of shock.

Two young men wearing a raincoat came to one Balakrishna Gore's house around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. It was raining heavily.  They knocked the back door of the house.  Once Balakrishna came to know that they were strangers, he tried to threaten them with his air gun.  But the strangers did not much bother about it and demanded cash and ornaments from Balakrishna.  But the latter refused.

Meanwhile a lady in her early 30s knocked the front door.  But no one opened the door.  When she was asked as what she needed, she asked Balakrishna to give her food.  But Balakrishna did not open the door.  Finally when they could not get anything, they asked Balakrishna way to Shishila through the forest and left the place. But before that they wrote Naxal slogan on the wall asking financial support to their movement and to Vithal Hegde.

Though nothing is sure as of now, some sources said that though there are chances of Naxalites visiting the house, no one can deny that these might be thieves who are taking advantage of the situation and trying to defame Naxal reputation.  Especially the way the name of Vithal Hegde is mentioned, it points out that someone is trying to take advantage of the situation following a couple of Naxal attacks in Chikmagalur area a few days ago. This is a right time for some robbers to rob off villagers using Naxal name, opined a local while speaking to this correspondent on Thursday morning.

News was immediately given to police.  Puttur ASI Dr Harsha has already arrived on the spot.  SP Sathish Kumar is expected to come to the spot along with Anti-Naxal Force shortly.  Sources said that the police may start combing operations in the area immediately and raid the forest completely by Thursday night.
