Mangalore, Jun 8:  The movement of heavy vehicles between Gundya and Sakaleshpur on NH 48 (from M’lore to Hassan) has been banned after 8 pm and before 5 am from Sunday June 10 to September 30 by deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.

The ban hold good especially for bullet tankers transporting liquefied petroleum gas, tankers carrying petroleum products and trucks with timber and granite.

The ban has been imposed in order to prevent the blocking of the highway during the monsoon on the Shiradi Ghat section.

The ban comes after a meeting held on Monday June 4 in which the issue of rising number of accidents on national highways involving heavy vehicles was discussed.

Rao in the notification issued on Wednesday June 6, has directed the regional transport offices in the city and Puttur to take steps to put the order into practice.
