Mangalore, Jun 8: In a positive step towards encouraging sports in the district, Suratkal MLA Krishna J Palemar has urged the department of youth affairs and sports to begin a sports school at the earliest.

A press release stated that the though the government had given permission to start sports schools in 23 districts, the move has not been implemented yet in Dakshina Kannada and three other districts owing to lack of infrastructural facilities.

The release further stated that the government will provide educational, boarding, and medical expenses to the students enrolled in these schools and will also appoint trained qualified coaches to train them, apart from providing necessary equipment.

The zilla panchayats have been given the responsibility of maintaining the sports schools.

Palemar also stated in the release that the minister for youth affairs and sports Y Hanumanthappa had said during the meeting of Legislative Assembly that the government had reserved Rs 3 crore for the setting up of the schools.
