Mangalore, Jun 8: The Federation of Education Resource Centres has alleged that some of the government schools are collecting fees from girl students even though education for girls is free of cost.

In a press release, the Federation has stated that it is the primary duty of the district administration to take appropriate steps in the matter immediately.

According to the release the Federation has suggested the district administration to display boards prominently in front of the schools to make people aware that education for girls in government schools is free. It also suggested a sustained media campaign to help the cause.

The issue was raised at the meeting of the Federation which was held at Beltangady taluk panchayat near here recently. During this meeting some other issues such as measures to improve the quality of education by strengthening the School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) were also raised.

The Federation has also urged the authorities to not be in a hurry to declare the district child labour-free.
