The week started off well. It was a good start to the week with the news of Mangalore diocese being bifurcated. The process to create a separate diocese of Udupi is under way. In fact the process is on fast track.

On the other hand passenger train to Bangalore is  still a mirage. It is not yet sure when the authorities would resume the Mangalore-Bangalore train service.

Women are given more importance

Justice Rajinder Sachar, former judge of Supreme Court and chairman of Sachar Committee said that atleast two omenshould be included in Waqf board as women can comprehend various problems faced either by the individuals or society in a better manner than men.

Women today are more talented than men. Though not all but more than 50% of  women are said to be talented than men. They can tackle many problems faced by the individual. There is great saying that beyond every successful man there is woman.

This clearly indicates that women are brave enough to help others as much as the other gender. Some help their husband in their business, in accounts, as well as marketing. They are strong enough to face any problem. We also find more and more women working, and their number has been rising during recent years. Besides, today we find many women looking after their family, instead of men.

Brass Vessels in Demand.

For over a fortnight, residents of Jeppu, Padil, Kandettu, Bikarnakatta and surrounding areas have been going through sleepless nights.  Even a tiny sound wakes them up suddenly.  People in these areas are facing troubles from thieves who are lifting their brass vessels.

We have heard of thieves stealing money, jewels, and electronic goods. But, now we find thieves decamping with brass vessels thus creating worry and problems to the owners. Brass vessels are now in demand in market and fetch huge prices.

So, obviously, thieves appear to be targeting only brass vessels. Does it mean jewels and other assets hold no more attraction for the thiefs? Quite intriguing, indeed ! Morever, normally brass vessels are kept ouside to boil water, thieves find it easy to steal them, without having to break doors for the purpose of stealing gold and cash, at their risk.

Beware of the sea and rivers in the coastal region

Locals and members of Mogaveerapatna swimmers' association rescued about 25 persons of a tourist group from drowning at Ullal. They had come from Andhra Pradesh to visit the Ullal Dargah on Wednesday morning.  After visiting Dargah some of them went to the beach for a stroll.

Many people hailing from morthern India or northern Karnataka lose their lives in sea or river. This is because most of them are not aware of the low tide and high tide and erratic sea behaviour here. The water level rises every day as all the rivers are connected to Arabian sea. Moreover, the water level starts rising in the afternoon at around after twelve and keeps rising till morning and then it decreases. People get into the river when the water level goes down and when it rises they get panicky and as a result they drown. So all those  not belong to the coastal area should be aware of these tides.

Is NH 17 a Formula One Track?

In yet another accident,  a private bus coming from udupi hit a qualis which was plying to Brahmavar, near Kaup. Yet again it is mainly because of smoth roads, says the public.  The road from Mulki to Brahmavar has been made smoother, which inspires reckless driving.

We find private and express buses practically 'flying' at breakneck speeds. The driver of any does not seem to think of the safety of the passengers he keeps transporting.  But his main itention will be to overtake other buses and ensure better collection for the owner, so that he gets a cut out of it.

In the bargain, NH 17 appears to be turning into a Formula One track.

Agony for Manipal Students

Town council has now issued notices to almost 35 petty shop owners of Manipal to vacate their shops at the earliest.

Petty shops along the roads within the city have largely benefited the residents.  As Manipal's petty shops receive more profit, more and more petty shops were coming up. Most of the students usually hang around petty shops because of lower prices and good quality food.

But now as the town council has asked these small shops to close down, students will have to keep their pockets filled with lump-sums.
