Bridgetown, Barbados, Apr 13: Having already powered his way to becoming the fastest to score 1000 ODI runs in a year, Australian opener Matthew Hayden is now all set to break Sachin Tendulkar's record of accumulating most one-day runs in a year.

The big-hitting left-hander, who has so far scored 1042 runs in 18 matches this year, has eight months in hand to overtake the Indian.

Hayden is in scintillating form in the ongoing World Cup and has scored two hundreds, making him one of the leading scorers in the showpiece event.

The Aussie has been scoring at an average of over 66 this year with his highest being 181 against New Zealand.

Tendulkar made the record in 1998 when he plundered 1894 runs at an average of nearly 89. The record is now under threat if Hayden continues with his rampaging form.

If Hayden manages to surpass Tendulkar then it would round off a superb comeback for the opener as his recall to the Australian side came under flak.
