Woman poisons her two children, hangs herself

New Delhi, May 29 (IANS): Angered by her husband's suspected illicit relations, a 30-year-old woman poisoned her two children before hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house here, police said on Friday.

The bodies of Neetu and her two children -- Tanik (5) and Riyan (2) -- were found by her husband Rahul Thakur and his brother Rajesh Thakur when they reached their house around 11.20 p.m. on Thursday in east Delhi's Shakarpur area.

Police said they were informed about the incident by Rajesh.

Prima facie, police said, the woman first poisoned both the children and then hanged herself.

"During initial inquiry, we got to know that the couple used to fight regularly. Their neighbours said that Neetu suspected her husband of having illicit relations with his sister-in-law," said a police official.

Neetu's family alleged that Rahul, a software engineer, started fighting with her after only a few months of their marriage eight years ago.

"Rahul stopped giving money to Neetu, which forced her to work in a private company to meet her expenses," said the official, quoting the victim's family.

Police said the initial probe pointed towards a suspected illicit affair being the cause of the crime.

Neetu was upset over the issue and hence took the extreme step, police said, adding that the body had been sent for a post-mortem. "We are conducting a thorough probe into the matter and will soon solve the case," the police official said.
