La Liga title reward for a fantastic season: Barcelona's Pique

Barcelona, May 18 (IANS): FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes the La Liga title is a just reward for his side after a brilliant 2014-15 season.

Luis Enrique’s men beat arch-rivals Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Vincente Calderon stadium on Sunday owing to a strike from Argentine forward Lionel Messi in the second half to clinch the trophy.

"It’s been a fantastic year. We’ve stood tall and the reward has been this title,” Pique was quoted as saying by goal.com on Monday.

"It was a difficult year last season, but the team showed we could pick ourselves up. I am very proud to be a part of this great generation of players at Barcelona," he said.

The Catalan giants are now a step closer to a treble this season as they are set to face Athletic Club Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final on May 30 before meeting Juventus in the Champions League decider on June 6.

However, Pique feels there is still a lot of football to be played before they can achieve the feat.

"We have to take each game at a time and now we need to focus on the cup final, which will be very tough. We are on the way but there’s still work to be done," the Spain international added.
