Chepngetich targets Brussels conquest ahead of 2015 World Cross


NAIROBI, Dec 20 (IANS): Kenya's World Junior Cross Country champion Faith Chepngetich will make her second show in Brussels Sunday as she seeks to shake off the rust after a long break.

Chepngetich is keen to stake claim to the 2015 World Cross Country championships to be held in Guiyang, China March 28, reports Xinhua.

"I am just getting started. I had a long holiday after the track season. Winning the Commonwealth Games was great and now, I must get my body ready for the Cross Country and I want gold in China," she said.

The 20-year-old Chepngetich will be making her debut as a senior in the discipline. The 1,500m Commonwealth Games champion is keen to take her top form in junior to her senior competitions.

Also competing in Brussels are World Junior and Asian Games 3000m champion Ruth Jebet of Bahrain Zewdnesh Ayele of Ethiopia and two-time European champion Fionnuala Britton.

Belgium's Almensch Belete will also compete at the event, while Louise Carton is another strong home contender. Bulgaria's Militsa Mircheva will hope to carry the form that took her to silver in the Under-23 race in Samokov.

In the men's race, top two from last year's race - Alex Kibet of Kenya and Albert Rop of Bahrainwill are strong contenders.
