Mangalore, Dec 3: On the eve of the International Day of Disabled Persons, a seminar titled 'Trends in Inclusive Education in the Present Scenario' was organized by the Mangala Jyothi Integrated School, CCF project and speech and hearing section.

Delivering the inaugural address, Dakshina Kannada district deputy director of public instruction Shankarappa said that with proper guidance and opportunity it is the need of the hour to bring disabled children to the mainstream.

In his key note address, Manipal TMA Pai Rural Development Research Centre Director Dr Krishna Kothai said that among the thousands of disabled children in India only a handful has the privilege of education.

Addressing the gathering, Dola Mohapatra chief guest of the inaugural function and National Director of Christian Children's Fund (CCF) appreciated the contribution of Mangala Jyothi School and other such institutions towards the field of education of the disabled.

He added that CCF will send a team to learn the art of taking care of disabled children. The function was presided over by Dr P N Krishnamurthy, vice president of the Society of Welfare of the Disabled.

The seminar threw light on topics such as 'role of teachers in children's education' and 'parents and teachers' attitude towards the changing trends in education'. The chief guest for the Valedictory was   Dr Jayashri Bhat, HoD of speech and hearing, KMC Attavar while Dr K Devaraj, p rincipal, SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore presided over.
