Thai golfer Pavit earns Asian Tour spot

Singapore, Oct 22 (IANS): Thailand's Pavit Tangkamolprasert became the second player following Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang to earn playing rights for the remainder of 2014 Asian Tour golf season after putting up stellar performances in the Asian Development Tour (ADT).

The talented golfer took home $17,500 following his fourth ADT victory at the 15th Chang Hwa Open in Chinese Taipei last week and ousted previous leader Chan on the ADT Order of Merit with his season’s haul of $68,428.

Second-placed Chan trails Pavit by $1,400 on the current merit rankings.

Pavit earlier in August won PGM Terengganu Championship and PGM MNRB Sarawak Championship in September in Malaysia.

Pavit rose 350 spots to his current ranking of 217 following three victories in 2014.

“It’s great to be able to work my way back onto the Asian Tour through playing on the ADT. I have played on the Asian Tour in 2008 but it was too much of a pressure for me then as I was always worried about making the cut. I think my game has matured a lot since and I feel confident and ready to compete against the Asian Tour players now,” said Pavit.

“The ADT has been a great platform for me to hone my skills and I gained a lot of playing experiences as well. It has been a great season for me and I’m looking forward to playing on the Asian Tour.”

Asian Tour chairman Kyi Hla Han is confident the 25-year-old will take advantage of his playing opportunities on the Asian Tour and tipped him to do well.

“It’s really pleasing to see young players like Pavit and Chan making full use of the ADT platform to boost their careers. I hope Pavit’s experience of playing on the ADT will help him achieve greater heights on the Asian Tour,” said Han.
