Kamaljeet, Chandran extend contract with Mumbai FC

Mumbai, Oct 11 (IANS): Defenders Kamaljeet Kumar and Nihal Chandran have penned contract extensions with I-League club Mumbai FC.

Kamaljeet became a part of the Mumbai FC squad back in 2007 before leaving for Pune FC in 2010. He re-signed for Mumbai in 2012 and has been at the club ever since.

"I wanted to stay here at this club and continue performing at the highest level. Like, always I’ll give my best to the team. The club has shown great ambition this transfer season and we hope to finish higher up the table in the I-League and give a strong performance in the Federation Cup," said Kamaljeet.

Chandran, 24, is one of many players to have climbed the ladder from the youth squad and play for Mumbai FC’s senior team.

"I am happy to commit to this club. It’s been fantastic here. I am thankful to (coach) Khalid Jamil who gave me an opportunity to perform at the highest level. We’ll try to do better this season and get a good spot in the I-League."

Team manager Henry Picardo confirmed the contract extensions.

"Yes, Nihal and Kamaljeet will be Mumbai FC players next season. Kamaljeet has been here since the club started and Nihal too represents the philosophy of this club of producing it’s own players. Both are fantastic defenders and it’s always good to have them in the squad."
