Chikmagalur, Sep 18: Mandd Sobhaann’s Konkani Darshan, a two-hour long Konkani music programme became a great hit in Balehonnur, Chikmagalur at the Konkani Mahotsav organized by State Konkani Sahitya Academy and Konkani Yuva Awas.

The programme began with a foot-tapping numbers "Tujea moga moipasacho," and "Konkani Amchi Bharamchi Bhaas" by Eric Ozario, Prakash D'Souza and Zeena Pereira nee Almeida.



The traditional and famous song "Hanv Saiba Poltodi Vetam" which followed had the audience on their toes.  "Goyn soddun aili Rozar bai", the well-known 'gumta' song was indeed a new experience to most of the audience but it entertained them to the hilt. This was evident with the round applause received for the song. 



The sensational and melodious trio, Eric, Prakash and Zeena kept the spectators glued to their chairs with some old and haunting Konkani numbers such as "Roseline mojha Mogachem", "Suryachim Kirnnam."





The rib-splitting humorous skits by Wilson, Alwyn and Divya and rhythmic dance by Avil and troupe of Naach Sobhaann became a complete package of pure entertainment.



Earlier during the second concrete session at the convention that dealt with some of the vital issues related to Konkani language, noted Konkani writer Dr Edward Nazareth, Konkani scholar Fr Pratap Naik, SJ, renowned preacher and writer Fr V J Menezes and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy member Victor Mathias (Vitori Karkala) presented their views on Konkani language, culture and traditions.

Vitori spoke on the history of Konkani language and culture tracing its roots deep into the history.  He also enlightened the gathering about the etymology of  "Konkan/Konkan".  Further, he presented the three main theories which are believed to have played a majore role in the forming of the word "Konkan/Konkani." 


Fr V J Menezes deliberated on "Future for Konkani in Chikmagalur".  His lively talk had the audience paying a listening ear to his deliberation. He called all the mothers to take special interest in teaching Konkani to their children and also appealed them to incorporate Konkani in their prayers.


Dr Edward Nazareth's views on “Language and  Identity” were very informative to the gathering.

Fr Pratap Naik JS was at his oratorical best in while presenting his paper on Konkani in Liturgy.



Overall the entire day’s programme was a major milestone in the history of Konkani and went a long way in bringing people of Chikmagalur diocese under one roof to the cause of Konkani language.
