UEFA ponders Champions League seeding changes

Geneva, Sep 5 (IANS) UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, is considering how to change the seedings for the Champions League clubs, with one option guaranteeing top-seeding to winners of high-ranked leagues.

Currently, UEFA ranks clubs over five years of competition results, leaving national champions Manchester City, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain among top seeded teams, reports Xinhua.

The coaching adviser Alex Ferguson, who chaired a two-day UEFA meeting of top coaches, thinks the seeding adjustment is not important.

Ferguson, a two-time Champions League winner with Manchester United, says "I don't necessarily think the seeding plays a great part" in group draws.

"You take what you get and your performance is the most important thing," he added.
