Indian junior squash team finishes sixth


Windhoek (Namibia), Aug 22 (IANS): India lost 1-2 to England to finish sixth in the World Junior team squash championship here.

Four-time champions England made up for the shock of losing out on a semifinal place for the first time in the 34-year history of the event by securing fifth place, but the third seeds were taken the full distance by India Thursday.

Meanwhile, Egypt retained the title for the third time in a row after beating Pakistan 2-0 in the final while Spain, seeded sixth and appearing in the championship for the first time since finishing in 20th place in 2008, followed up their quarter-final upset over India by beating Malaysia 2-0.

Results:
3-England beat 4-India 2-1 (George Parker bt Kush Kumar 6-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 11-5; Lyell Fuller lost to Madhav Dhingra 11-2, 7-11, 9-11, 11-13; Patrick Rooney bt Velavan Senthilkumar 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8).
